Nixon's Huskies Looking for First Place

Laurence Nixon HuskiesLaurence Nixon '02, the quarterback for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, led the team to victory on Saturday over Simon Fraser University.  The win puts the Huskies in a position to finish first in the west going into the last week of the season.

Nixon completed 17-of-31 passes for 216 yards, three interceptions and the one touchdown pass. SFU’s Bernd Dittrich went 13-for-31 throwing three interceptions on 116 yards. He also rushed for 22 yards.

Gorski was the top receiver in the game tallying 108 yards on six catches, scoring the lone touchdown in the game. O’Gorman had 134 yards on 21 carries on the ground and 16 receiving yards on three catches.

Adam Johnson was the best on offence in the game for the Clan gaining 37 yards on eight carries on the ground and 28 yards in the air on three receptions.

Defensively the Clan had eight players with four or more tackles — Justin Capiciotti led the way with 81/2. Chris Folk, Eshleman and Anthony DesLauriers had the interceptions for SFU. Lyndon Boychuk led Saskatchewan with 61/2 tackles. Peter Thiel, Bryce McCall and Grant Shaw had the interceptions for the Huskies.

Saskatchewan will head to Vancouver Friday to face the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds, a team they defeated 37-3 earlier this season. SFU will play the waiting game with a bye.

Playoff tickets are now available for purchase for season ticket holders. Season ticket holders have until Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. to purchase tickets for themselves, friends and family. Tickets for the general public go on sale Thursday at 8:30 a.m. They can be bought by calling 966-1111 or at the PAC on College. The semifinal game will be played November 1 in Griffths Stadium at 1:30 p.m.
