VC Grad's Career Literally Takes Off
Ryan Donnelly, a graduate of 2003, has worked hard and has found success in a rather unique career. Instead of a normal university education in the arts, commerce or sciences, Donnelly applied himself to the study of aviation. He is currently First Officer, or pilot, of a Boeing 727 jet flying cargo all over the country for Purolator. At the age of 23, Donnelly is one of the youngest pilots flying a jet of such size in his profession.
Starting at the age of 15, Donnelly received his pilots license and began flying to gain as much experience as he could.
After Vancouver College he attended the Okanagan University College where he earned himself a two year diploma in commercial aviation. From there he landed a job with Westcoast Air in Vancouver and occasionally piloted flights from Vancouver to Victoria. In August of 2006, Donnelly was hired by Purolator and began to fly cargo throughout the country.
"It was my dream to someday be an Commercial airline pilot and I have met that goal," Donnelly said of his career. "I love every minute of my job."
With plans of moving forward into commercial passenger flights, he hopes to one day fly for Cathay Pacific and be able to fly internationally.
