Nixon's Huskies Defeat UBC

This weekend saw the Univeristy of Saskatchewan host the Univeristy of British Columbia.  The U of S Huskies playing with Quarterback Laurence Nixon, VC Grad '05, won the game 37-3.  The win puts the Huskies in a tie for first place.

Saskatchewan opened the scoring in the second half on an eight-yard pass to Thomas from quarterback Laurence Nixon at 9:38 to give the Huskies a 24-3 lead. UBC had a chance to double their score with a 45-yard field goal attempt but McIsaac missed wide right.

The Huskies added a touchdown to start the fourth quarter on Thomas’s third of the game — a one-yard run — for a 31-3 lead. MacDougall added two more field goals in the last quarter — the first from 46-yards out and the second from 22-yards — to give the Huskies the 37-3 victory.

Nixon completed 21-of-29 passes for 293 yards and one touchdown for the Huskies. UBC’s Greene completed 13-of-29 pass attempts, throwing one interception on his 148 yards. Saskatchewan backup Trevor Barss saw action in the fourth quarter completing four-of-five passes for 38 yards.

Thomas tallied 166 rushing yards on 23 carries and two touchdowns. The tailback also had 75 receiving yards and added another touchdown in the air. Blaine Kruger gained 79-yards on six catches for the T-Birds, while Dave Boyd earned 38-yards on 10 rushing attempts and another 55 receiving yards.

On defence, Bryce McCall had 51/2 tackles and one breakup and Ivan Brown had five tackles and three sacks for the Huskies. Tommy Buchmann, Scott McCuaig and Nathan Kanya all had seven tackles for UBC. McCuaig also had a breakup in the game.

The Huskies hit to road to face the reigning Vanier Cup champion Bisons on October 11, while the T-Birds meet the Clan on October 9. The Huskies-Bisons game will be broadcast live on Shaw Cable.
