UPDATE: Brother Newman's Recovery
Vancouver College Principal, Dave Hardy, provided the following update on Brother Newman's Condition. Take a look at this previous Blog Entry for what happened. Also, please join the facebook group titled, Praying for Brother Newman.
Brother Newman has made considerable progress in the past few days – his status has been upgraded to stable. He has improved so much that the medical team has discontinued most of the life saving equipment and medication that he has been on over the past week. An urgent heart transplant is no longer considered necessary. The road to recovery is still long, but it seems that our prayers have been answered. We know that our Brother Newman is in on the mend and his humour is back! He was cracking jokes from his hospital bed on the weekend.
It will still likely be several days to weeks until he is strong enough to receive visitors. The medical team is still very cautious but as soon as he is well enough, he will be cheering on the Fighting Irish!
At this time, I would like to publicly acknowledge Dr. Stephen Ho who through his relationship with Brother Newman’s medical team at VGH and St. Paul’s has been able to keep the Vancouver College Community up to date with Brother’s medical condition. Dr. Ho and his family continue to be of service to our community in so many ways.
I would also like to thank all of you for your prayers and support. Both Brother Newman and his family have been touched by your many expressions of support – students, parents, faculty, and especially alumni.
Please continue with your prayers.
Semper Fidelis,
Dave Hardy
