Praying for Brother Newman
The Vancouver College Alumni Association is, like everyone in the VC Community, praying for Brother Newman. VCAlumni.com will be posting any and all information relating to his condition. We are all hoping and praying he will pull through, as Brother Newman has been a very important part of the VC Community for many years. He has influenced every graduate for years and he is an important part of the school.
Brother Newman was at Vancouver General Hospital this past week where
he was due for a set of tests related to some severe chest pains he had
been experiencing this past summer. While being treated, he slipped
into cardiac arrest and had a severe heart attack. He is currently
stable but remains on high alert and is in desperate need of a heart
transplant.
At this time, Brother Newman is not seeing any
visitors as he is still in critical condition. There is a good chance
that he will receive a heart transplant as the province completes up to
three per month, which is way up from just years ago when the province
completed on average 3 per year. All we as a community can do for the
moment is pray for his recovery.
Our Hearts and prayers are with you Brother.
There has been a Facebook Group, titled Praying for Brother Newman, created to keep everyone informed with any updated information.
UPDATE: Wednesday 17 September 2008
Brother Newman continues to be in critical condition, but there have
been some small positive steps made in the past two days. His condition
improved enough for him to be transferred to St. Paul’s Hospital, where
he is undergoing additional specialized treatment. It is likely that
his heart has been so weakened that complete recovery of his heart is
improbable. It is also likely that a heart transplant may be his best
chance for recovery.
Br. Newman’s condition still precludes any
visitors other than immediate family. The family continues to pray for
his recovery and thanks all for their well wishes and gestures of
kindness.
