Irish Continue to Shine: Rob Weitemeyer '00

Rob WeitemeyerRob Weitemeyer '00 rowing for the Dark Blued helped Oxford win their fourth in five famed Oxford Cambridge Race by 3 lengths with a power surge in the second half of the race reminiscent of last year.  Cambridge led after one minute and had stretched the lead to a third of a length after another minute.  Oxford though drew back by the Mile and led by half a second in a time which was only three seconds outside the record.  155 years ago the first race was run with a few hundred spectators watching.  The Modern Boat Race still runs along the same course but has now become a major international sporting occasion drawing millions of viewers from around the world.  On Race Day up to 250,000 spectators crowd the banks of the Thames from Putney to Mortlake to witness the action.
