The New O'Hagan Field
O'Hagan Field Construction Rushes Ahead
Fighting Irish athletes have long been a source of pride for Vancouver College, and combining that with strong academic and spiritual studies produces some of our finest citizens.
O'Hagan Field, the home of the Fighting Irish football program, has been synonymous with Vancouver College for over eighty years. This program has produced more professional athletes than most univeristies.
With the installation fo the new artificial turf, synthetic track and play area for elemtary students well under way, O'Hagan Field will become more that football field. Standing next to the new science centre, sports complex, and center for performing arts, it illustrates the focus of Vancouver College on the balanced development of the mind, body, and soul.
Winning teams are a source of pride for the school, but they are not the only reason we pay so much attention to sports. The physical part of developing the whole person involves testing one's limits and possibily discovering they're not limits after all.
Our athletic program continues to be second to none. Whether through participating in intramurals, interschool teams, or our high performance program, all Vancouver College athletes can find their place.
"We were able to take on a project of this magnitude due to our strong fiscal management, bridging of our loand, and faith in our Vancouver College community to support this necessary project - a project that completes our sports complex, positioning us to strengthen our athletic programs and development of the students. We now have students earning athletic scholarships for soccer and hockey as well," said Dave Hardy, Principal.
TIMING
The project target for completion is September has three phases. The first phase is the civil work, which is now almost complete. Installation of the artificial turf is scheduled for completion by the beginning of August. The last phase, installing the synthetic track, requires an asphalt sub base to be laid down first, which needs to be cured for three weeks before the synthetic track surface is applied.
OUR GOAL
Our goal is a sports complex that students and alumni can enjoy this fall. To date, more than $600,000 has been pledged towards our goal of $3 million. Alumni and parents have given their support in order for Vancouver College to be there for you. At this time, we ask you to leave a legacy for the students - both now and for the future.
